The Background of Pilgrim's
| We
purchased our first German Shepherd, (male) in 1984 and this began our
love affair with our breed.
After studying every piece of literature we could find on German Shepherds, we decided to look for a bitch to breed to our big boy. We found Friedl, a German/American bitch, in Boston and thus began our breeding program. At that time we bred for obedience/protection pups. Shortly thereafter we purchased another bitch who we thought would make a good brood bitch. However, she came from show lines and we decided to show her. That was it - we were hooked! We have always tried to breed good to good, striving to correct faults and thereby improving the breed, placing a great deal of emphasis on temperaments. We usually breed 2 litters a year because we strongly feel any more than that doesn't give us enough time to spend with both our adults and puppies, especially puppies who need an abundance of time to play, grow in spirit and socialize.
